  • ½ tsp Honey or Sugar 
  • ½ Cup Water 
  • 1 tsp Olive Oil 

Hummus: 

  • 2 Cups Soaked Chickpeas 
  • 3-4 minced Garlic Cloves 
  • 3 tbsp Sesame Seeds or Tahini 
  • ⅔ tsp Red Chili Powder 
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder 
  • Salt as per taste 
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice 
  • 3-4 tbsp Olive Oil 
  • Sliced Olives (Optional)

Directions

Pita Bread: 

  • Incorporate the yeast and honey into a bowl with lukewarm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes, till it becomes foamy. 
  • Add the Whole Wheat Flour, water, olive oil and salt to a separate bowl and combine the yeast mixture with it. 
  • Stir till it can be kneaded into the dough to divide into small balls for the bread. 
  • In an oiled bowl, let the dough rest for about 1-2 hours. Divide the dough into small balls to create equal pieces. 
  • Shape the balls into flatbreads and cook them on a non-stick pan or Tawa. 
  • Place the Pita Bread onto a hot skillet and let the bread puff up and bottom turn brown. 
  • Cover the bread in a kitchen towel and let it rest, or serve hot.  

Hummus: 

  • Roast the Tahini or Sesame Seeds and make a fine powder out of it using a blender. 
  • Chickpeas must be soaked overnight and then boiled in salted water till they become soft. 
  • Blend or mix the boiled chickpeas in a food processor or blender to make a fine paste. 
  • Combine garlic, salt, cumin seeds, red chili powder, pepper and roasted tahini or sesame seeds into the paste. 
  • Additionally, incorporate olive oil and lemon juice and blend till the mixture becomes smooth and tastes delicious. 
  • Serve in a bowl by topping it off with drops of olive oil and sprinkle of red chili powder. You can also add sliced olives as garnish.
